To everyone participating in the Junior Debating League:
It has been decided that, to cover the administrative costs of running the league, it is necessary to levy a fee of 20 Euros per school for the year. The accounts of Debating Society Germany to which you should pay are LBBW (Sort Code 600 501 01), A/C no. 820 46 64 or Deutsche Bank (Sort Code 600 700 24), A/C no. 132 02 90. Transfer reference: Please say from which school the payment comes, as it is not always easily to piece things together! If you should need a receipt for your school, please tell our treasurer Tanja Wolf.
Dear Friends, dear Colleagues,
David Whitehead will inform you 3 weeks ahead of time of venue & prepared motion. Please check all venues & dates, & if sth doesn't work, please tell us asap.
Please, all schools hosting should make sure you have enough judges for the event, 3 per team. They can be teachers from your own school, or visiting schools, they can & should include senior debaters (11-13) from the schools.
David & I cannot be responsible, we can only chivy & exhort - nor can you be wholly responsible, but we're relying on you to take a look at the situation well in advance.
Each venue should arrange a short judges briefing, preferably by an old hand.
Please note: especially with new teams, let's be generous in the standard of English & of timing. A 2-minute speech (instead of 5) must be accepted in JL!
We are less tolerant of missing POIs and of missing team-line & internal structure.
Praise them all afterwards, don't criticise - they know their own deficiencies! This is not SL, & the purpose is to encourage!
Best of luck, & enjoyment,
Michael Pates
