Team Germany scores late wins in Capetown
After ten days of debating, Team Germany arrived back home from Captetown's WSDC 2012 in late January after winning three out of eight preliminary debates - just like in Dundee, Scotland last year. Louisa Benk, Bhavesh Agarwal, Sophia Jaimes-Ramos, Felix Jiang and Antonia Schmidt have shown great discipline and positivity after winning only one debate during the first six rounds, when they, on the last day, didn't hang their heads and won against both India and the Czech Republic. Congratulations for this great achievement! The speakers have been great representatives of German debating in Capetown and have scored a respectable 36th place out of 48 participating nations, on top of all the excellent new contacts and friendships made, cultures and Capetown experienced and overall having enjoyed a wonderful trip as a team.
Completing the delegation were coach and team manager Marie Schreier (Uni Tübingen), judge Klaus-Peter Heil (Parler-GYM, Schwäbisch Gmünd) and judge Christopher Sanchez (Max-Born-GYM, Backnang), who would eventually have the great privilege of judging the Grand Final. In this final, Scotland beat Wales 8:1 and became new WSDC Champion 2012. Congratulations!!

BBC / English Speaking Union (ESU) Award 2012 launched
We're proud to announce the launch of the BBC/ESU Public Speaking Awards in Germany! This is an event for individual speakers, not teams, and will be run on a pilot basis this year in the Berlin/Brandenburg/Saxony region. If everything goes as we expect, then it will be expanded to the whole country for the 2012/2013 academic year. We're running this event with our partners BBC World News, Deutsche Telekom and the English-Speaking Union and the generous support of the British Embassy in Berlin. If you're interested in taking part, then please visit the BBC/ESU Awards page of this website!

Germany brings home three wins from WSDC 2011
Germany lost both debates in split decisions on MON, 22 AUG, the last of the prliminary rounds days (2:1 v Hong Kong and 2:1 to Czech Republic), which leaves us with three wins, five losses, three of them split - that's ten ballots. Sadly, the tournament is over for us, but it's been great having Dilek Sevinc, Viola Schramm, Karoline Schlotthauer, Felix Jiang, Kai Ohmstedt and coach Jana Gilke on the delegation in Dundee who have left a great impression on everyone nonetheless, and have been great assets to representing Germany at WSDC. As a happy surprise, Christopher Sanchez was selected to judge up to the semi-finals.
Thank you very much and see you again in Capetown 2012!
